Rogue and Ugly Duckling Franchisees

Sometimes its difficult for the entrepreneur type to adhere to someone else's business "structure."

However, so many franchisors simply suggest "just sticking to the plan."

On more than one occasion I have had a franchisor tell me a story about a "rogue" or "ugly duckling" in their system - a franchisee who comes in talking more than listening. What makes the difference between the two (rogue or ugly duckling) is that the rogue franchisee never comes around to accepting the rules or sticking to the franchise plan into which they have invested. The ugly duckling on the other hand, although having some trouble sticking to the franchise system at first, learns to adapt eventually, and interestingly enough, often becomes one of the best franchisees in the sytem . . .
